  • OK, so a week from today I go under the knife to get this &*%$#@ tennis elbow fixed. As an experiment, I did my hair one-handed today. It's not pretty. You may not see me for a month, or I may be coming to church wearing a Halo Wars hat, I don't know yet.

So what are you doing with your ice day? We are blik-ing the guest bathroom in vines and L-man's room in Happy Accident!

  • college days

OK, so our oldest would never admit it, but he's already planning his dream life/escape... college! The idea greatly appeals to him, so much so that he often asks about it - what's a dorm room look like, do you have to study all the time or do you have time to relax, is the cafeteria like Luby's (he was very happy when I said no; the grandparents love to take him there), what are the pros/cons of living on campus vs. in an apartment, can he have a laptop to do his work, etc. Lots of discussion on the way to taekwondo, but C-man was being unusually quiet. Finally he pipes up: "I have a question. Which one of us gets the DS?!" L-man laughed and said he could have it.

After we dropped his brother off, C-man confides in me: "I want the DS so I can show my kids what old video games looked like." Yikes. At least they have plans?

  • It's a Katamari Christmas

The artists in yOyQ's office usually win the gingerbread house-making contest (everything used must be edible), but I think the boys' efforts this year are going to give them a run for the money, literally. I give you "Katamari Christmas" in its progression over the last few days:

The katamari in its early stages; the donut is Ban-Ban, a kosmo or character in the Katamari Damacy video game; the Prince is in the middle (gum drops and pretzel sticks):

    Dec 126

Ban-Ban starts rolling up the neighborhood:

    Dec 141

The Prince was unable to stand on his own, so the boys used him on the sign:

    Dec 149

Ban-Ban rolling up another gingerbread house:

    Dec 151

  •  A friend let me squeeze the crap out of her two crossed fingers yesterday while I got a cortizone injection in my elbow again. I am not a sissy when it comes to shots - got one a week the last 10 weeks of both of my pregnancies - but cortisone in a ligament, tendon, whatever it's called, hurts.

On an up note, C-man is getting baptized Sunday! He's wishing his flip video camcorder was waterproof so he could document the occasion firsthand! Check out the Alaska documentary he put together:

  • It's been awhile since I blogged. Life for me lately has been full of things I've never done before or thought I'd never do. Here are a few examples:

    1. Dallas Stars Hockey. Haven't been to a hockey game since before the boys were born. akgirlgonetexan had an extra ticket and we went "on a school night" and had too much fun! I never realized how much I like hockey. The Stars had a deal going and now we're going to 4 games over the next few weeks together!

    2. Thwarting squirrels, or trying to. Several squirrels (at least that's what it sounded like) invaded our chimney. So yOyQ buys some kind of sealant you shoot out of a caulk gun, grabs the ladder and tells me to follow him. We go out C-man's window onto the roof (but not before I tell the boys to call 911 if anything happens). He proceeds to climb up the roof like he's taking a stroll. I am commanded to follow, and do so whimpering, on all fours; it wasn't pretty. I'm not normally scared of heights but our house is TALL. The view really was beautiful, the few seconds I opened my eyes. Then I spent the next 15 minutes bracing my body against the ladder, holding onto the chimney at a 45-degree angle, and thanking God for my Doc Martens with their thick rubber soles. He caulked away and I whimpered back down the roof and into the house. NEVER AGAIN. The caulk job lasted a few days, then the squirrels were back. Persistent little buggers.

    3. Mailed poop. Yes, again, something that never occurred to me (Sealer04 would probably find this exercise fascinating). Just following doctor's orders after my big you're-40-now-and-it's-all-downhill-from-here physical. I had to laugh when the doc said, "Yeah, you wouldn't believe the crap I get in the mail." You could tell he never gets tired of saying that.

    4. Strung garland on a bannister. Something I've always wanted to do. It's beautiful and warmed me up tenfold to my new house.

    5. Gone to the House of Blues. Actually, that's tomorrow night for yOyQ's Xmas party. Should be interesting. Microsoft is closing Ensemble after they complete Halo Wars, so this is the last hurrah.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving...
